WhenaHALTinstructionisexecutedandtheLXToscillatorisnotrunning,thesystementersthe Sleepmodethefollowingconditionsexist: • Thesystemoscillatorwillstoprunningandtheapplicationprogramwillstopatthe"HALT" instruction. • TheDataMemorycontentsandregisterswillmaintaintheirpresentcondition. • TheWDTwillbeclearedandresumecountingiftheWDTclocksourceisselectedtocomefrom theLIRCoscillator.TheWDTwillstopifitsclocksourceoriginatesfromthesystemclock. • TheI/Oportswillmaintaintheirpresentcondition. • Inthestatusregister,thePowerDownflag,PDF,willbesetandtheWatchdogtime-outflag,TO, willbecleared. Standby Current Considerations AsthemainreasonforenteringtheIdle/SleepModeistokeepthecurrentconsumptionofthe MCUtoaslowavalueaspossible,perhapsonlyintheorderofseveralmicro-amps,thereare otherconsiderationswhichmustalsobetakenintoaccountbythecircuitdesignerifthepower consumptionistobeminimised. SpecialattentionmustbemadetotheI/Opinsonthedevice.Allhigh-impedanceinputpinsmust beconnectedtoeitherafixedhighorlowlevelasanyfloatinginputpinscouldcreateinternal oscillationsandresultinincreasedcurrentconsumption.Caremustalsobetakenwiththeloads, whichareconnectedtoI/Opins,whicharesetupasoutputs.Theseshouldbeplacedinacondition inwhichminimumcurrentisdrawnorconnectedonlytoexternalcircuitsthatdonotdrawcurrent, suchasotherCMOSinputs. IftheconfigurationoptionshaveenabledtheWatchdogTimerinternaloscillatorLIRCthenthis willcontinuetorunwhenintheIdle/SleepModeandwillthusconsumesomepower.Forpower sensitiveapplicationsitmaybethereforepreferabletousethesystemclocksourcefortheWatchdog Timer.TheLXT,ifconfiguredforuse,willalsoconsumealimitedamountofpower,asitcontinues torunwhenthedeviceenterstheIdleMode.TokeeptheLXTpowerconsumptiontoaminimum leveltheLXTLPbitintheCTRL0register,whichcontrolsthelowpowerfunction,shouldbeset high. |
