Bit7 Bit6 0 1 Control Register Operating Mode Select Bits for the Timer Mode Inthismode,theexternaltimerTMRpin,isusedastheTimer/EventCounterclocksource,however itisnotdividedbytheinternalprescaler.AftertheotherbitsintheTimerControlRegisterhavebeen set,theenablebitTON,whichisbit4oftheTimerControlRegister,canbesethightoenablethe Timer/EventCountertorun.IftheActiveEdgeSelectbit,TEG,whichisbit3oftheTimerControl Register,islow,theTimer/EventCounterwillincrementeachtimetheexternaltimerpinreceivesa lowtohightransition.IftheTEGishigh,thecounterwillincrementeachtimetheexternaltimerpin receivesahightolowtransition.Whenitisfullandoverflows,aninterruptsignalisgeneratedand theTimer/EventCounterwillreloadthevaluealreadyloadedintothepreloadregisterandcontinue counting.TheinterruptcanbedisabledbyensuringthattheTimer/EventCounterInterruptEnable bitinthecorrespondingInterruptControlRegister.Itisresettozero. AstheexternaltimerpinissharedwithanI/Opin,toensurethatthepinisconfiguredtooperateas aneventcounterinputpin,twothingshavetohappen.ThefirstistoensurethattheOperatingMode SelectbitsintheTimerControlRegisterplacetheTimer/EventCounterintheEventCounting Mode.Thesecondistoensurethattheportcontrolregisterconfiguresthepinasaninput.Itshould benotedthatintheeventcountingmode,evenifthemicrocontrollerisintheSleepMode,the Timer/EventCounterwillcontinuetorecordexternallychanginglogiceventsonthetimerinput TMRpin.Asaresultwhenthetimeroverflowsitwillgenerateatimerinterruptandcorresponding wake-upsource.
